About
🏛 The exhibition presents the life and work of the museum's founder, Emília Cserey Zathureczky, through a collection of the oldest exhibits of the Székely National Museum.
In the 19th century it was a rarity for a woman to found a museum! Ladies' social ties were very restricted due to social norms. Yet how could a woman create a museum? Who was Emília Cserey Zathureczky?
Mrs. Emília Cserey Zathureczky, founder of the museum, can be a role model for all of us. Despite the fact that she lost her husband and all her children, although shattered by family tragedies, she nevertheless participated in financing charities, financially supported schools and hospitals, built the bell tower and participated in supporting the church. His main achievement was the creation of the Székely National Museum, which he supported so much and raised it to such a high standard that 25 years after the first exhibition, the museum has already participated in the world exhibition in Paris, and its manuscripts, documentary archives have been studied by academics and researchers.
Our exhibition gives you an insight into this wonderful life. With embroidery and furniture from the 17th-18th centuries, pottery, fine ceramics, glassware from the 18th-19th centuries and bronze objects from the Early Iron Age we evoke the fascinating world of objects that surrounded Mrs. Emília Cserey Zathureczky and that formed the old collection of the Székely National Museum.
