About
🏰 The Béldi-Mikes Castle was built around 1630 by Kelemen Béldi; its predecessor, the Béldi manor house, was already mentioned in records in 1544. In 1755, Count Antal Mikes expanded the building in the Baroque style. The manor underwent major alterations in the 17th century and again at the beginning of the 20th century. The estate once included several outbuildings: a stone stable, a bakehouse, a kitchen, a flower house, a carriage shed, a steward’s house, and the bailiff’s house.
The castle was nationalized in 1949. During the communist regime, it housed the Directorate of the Covasna County State Farms. In the 1970's, the building was substantially altered: the doors and windows were replaced, the upstairs rooms were subdivided, and the oak staircase leading to the porch was replaced with a concrete one.
Architectural style: Late Renaissance and Baroque.
⚜ The castle was returned to the family in 2004. Today, Count Zsigmond Mikes and his family live in the manor and warmly welcome visitors. Although the manor no longer displays its former grandeur, its walls, trees, and courtyard come to life again during guided visits led by the noble family.
