Covasna resort
The city of Covasna is a spa resort of national interest. The town was first documented in 1548, it became a city in 1952 and since 1968 the county has been named after the resort. The name of the town comes from the Slavic word "cvas", meaning sour (as are some mineral waters), taken over in Hungarian as "kovász", meaning "dough". Due to the variety of natural resources, Covasna is one of the most popular spa resorts in Romania. The presence of mineral waters, mofetta (natural carbon dioxide emissions), air rich in negative ions made possible the development of health- and balneo-tourism and the development of the Covasna method - a treatment procedure used for more than five decades, of which one can only benefit in Covasna resort. The Valley of the Fairies - with its hiking trails - is ideal for walking or jogging. The symbol of the city is the Devil's Lake, a mofetic gas eruption that keeps a whirlpool of mud and mineral waters in motion. This mud volcano resembles a bubbling fountain.

For SPA treatments, you can use the facilities of the hotels, private spas; you can also get treatment at the Dr. Benedek Géza Rehabilitation Hospital. The hospital has the largest built mofetta in the world, where more than 10,000 people are treated annually. The "Covasna method" was developed in this hospital. If you suffer from cardiovascular diseases, "Covasna - the city of mofettas and 1000 mineral water spring" awaits you!
Mofetta gas is the product of post-volcanic activity, being an emanation of gases, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), used in balneology. Being denser than air, CO2 is captured in a pit arranged in steps, where patients take a dry bath in the healing gas.
The mineral waters of Covasna are used both in internal and external cures for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases or digestive diseases. During baths in mineral waters, the carbon dioxide forms bubbles on the skin, and the minerals are absorbed through the pores.
