About

Mestecăniș Bike Tour, this "soul business" of the Boghiu family started from the love they had for this area: the forest area of the Birch forest in Reci and the Reci lake area. 💓🚵‍♀️ 👨‍👩‍👧 ☘🦎🍄

The love for this place was born in 2017-2019, when they came with their camper to Reci lake, which made them fall in love with this place irremediably, living permanently in the wooden houses near the lake since 2019. With a constant thirst to discover the beauty of the nature reserve, they started exploring the area on foot and by bike. The idea of renting bicycles arose from the desire to help tourists and visitors - especially families with children -, to enjoy long routes in nature more easily, even if they cannot come with their own bicycles.

🚴 Mestecăniș Bike Tours has:
  • 2 single-person bicycles,
  • 2 two-person bicycles + place for one or two children and
  • 2 four-person bicycles (these are more suitable for adults, as they are quite heavy bicycles, the effort of pedaling is proportionate).
Currently, Mestecăniș Bike Tours can offer a bike ride at the same time for 14 adults and 2-4 children up to 10 years old. Even though the rental is done by the hour, the service can also be requested for 30 minutes.

🕑 From Monday to Friday, the schedule is between 10:00-18:00, with the request to signal your arrival by phone 15 min. in advance. On weekends (Saturday and Sunday) the schedule is from 9:00 to 18:00, and no prior appointment is required. However, the schedule is flexible depending on the customers' requirements. Groups are advised to make a reservation in advance to ensure that bicycles are available according to the desired time and number of people. ❗

If you are coming with children, don't forget: the Legend's Road awaits you! 👑

Thank you for respecting the rules of the nature reserves! 💚 🥾

Take a walk to the Óriáspince Hill! 💛 According to the legend, this hill was once inhabited by a giant who buried his treasure under the Óriáspince Hill. The sacred hilltop is reached by a special staircase of 12 gates, recalling the 12 turbulent centuries of Covasna County, at the very end of which a stone altar stands beneath a huge wooden platform resembling a yurt. Here, you will notice some stone pillars, which are "talking stones": they were oriented in such a way as to point in the direction of the settlement whose name and the year of its first written entry can be read on the stone slab. From the top of the Óriáspince Hill, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the basin of Covasna County. 🌄 This location has a fascinating story - we invite you to discover it HERE! ✨ 🐴 Every year, the Szekler Gallop, the preliminary stage of the Hungarian National Gallop, is held here: an event full of adrenaline and cheering. The Nature Reserve Vârghiş Gorges is the ideal place for hiking and caving. The nature reserve is in the northern part of Perșani Mountains and is crossed by the Vârghiş river. It consists of numerous limestone cliffs and geomorphologic formations. The length of this wonder is about 4 km. On the road of exploration, limestone cliffs, vertical mountain-sides, limestone towers (Pigeons Tower, Csala Tower), pit caves, sinkholes, creeks are making the journey more adventurous. The cave formations have a scientific and speleological value. The caves are hiding precious archeological and paleontological treasures, a few of them being preserved and closed from the public. Moreover, this nature reserve serves as a shelter for the largest bats population in the country (19 different species). This beautiful area can be visited under the supervision of a local guide.

🌿🐸 Balázs Orbán, writer and ethnographic collector, called the Birches of Reci nature reserve area "the Sahara of Covasna County" because of its structure of sand dunes. Here you can find many characteristic rare plants, rich fauna and seasonal lakes. You can use the marked hiking trails for walking, cycling or horse riding. At the moment the site is heavily anthropized, the birch biocenosis has been almost totally deforested, pine forests being planted in their place. The meadow grassland biocenosis has been heavily modified by grazing. The site has a special scientific importance due to the hygrophilous species, rare for Romania, represented by hygrophilous species of sloughy soils and margins of wooden swamps. The saga trail leads through a forest inhabited by fairies and giants, as evidenced by the animated saga of the Birches of Reci, which you can watch while walking. The 5 km comfortable hike is recommended for families with young children. 💚 👉 Carry water, there are no springs on the routes. Wear comfortable clothes suitable for a light hike!
