🏒✨Even if you have your accommodation in Brașov, here are some great suggestions to spend your free time between, before or after the hockey matches from the Sepsi Arena, in Sfântu Gheorghe!
🔸 Starting point: Brașov
🔹 Evangelical Fortified Church ⛪
From Brașov, on your way to Sfântu Gheorghe, you can make a stop in Prejmer to visit the fortified church. This UNESCO World Heritage site, built as an almost impregnable fortified church, has protected the inhabitants of the area during the turbulent centuries of history, now completely restored and awaiting its visitors. The Teutonic knights returning from the Crusades began building the early Gothic church in 1218. From 1240 onwards, the Abbey of Kerch continued to build on these foundations in the typical Cistercian style. To protect it from 15th-century Turkish attacks, it was fortified with a 12-metre-high triple defensive wall system, and 275 chambers were built into the inner castle wall, which served as living quarters during sieges and as a storehouse for crops in peacetime. The outer half of the castle wall has loopholes and pitch openings, while the inner half is surrounded by a 2 m wide guard walk. Although it has remained more or less intact over the centuries, it underwent a complete renovation between 1964 and 1970.
