History, nature and relaxation - Discover Covasna and its surroundings!

🏒If you have your accommodation in Covasna, here are some suggestions for the perfect way to spend your free time!

🔹 Covasna, the spa resort 🌲

💦 Due to the variety of natural resources, Covasna is one of the most popular spa resorts in Romania. The presence of mineral waters, mofetta (natural carbon dioxide emissions), and air rich in negative ions made possible the development of health- and balneo-tourism. You can begin your trip right in the resort’s center, where you will find the symbol of the town, the Devil's Lake, a mofetic gas eruption that keeps a whirlpool of mud and mineral waters in motion. This mud volcano resembles a bubbling fountain. Being in Covasna we also recommend trying the mofetta, which is the product of post-volcanic activity, an emanation of gases, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), used in balneology, for cardiovascular diseases. Being denser than air, CO2 is captured in a pit arranged in steps, where patients take a dry bath in the healing gas.

❗️ Usage: Approaching the mofetta requires caution; it can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Before entering the dry bath, you should be well rested, and the gas level should be checked. The easiest way to do this is the open flame test: where the flame goes out, you should not bend down anymore. Occasional, single use should not exceed 10 minutes.

💧 Afterwards you should taste the refreshing mineral waters from the springs – don’t forget to bring a mug or a bottle. The mineral waters of Covasna are used both in internal and external cures for the treatment of cardiovascular - like the mofetta - or digestive diseases. This tasting experiment can be followed by the Valley of the Fairies, - with its hiking trails – being ideal for walking or jogging as well, where the Fairy Waterfall is also worth a visit. The valley is 5 km far away from the town center.
