The first official, well-known appreciation regarding the mansions came from Balázs Orbán, writer, etnographic collector in the 19th century; the renowed Károly Kós, architect in the 20th century was also amazed by these manor houses.
During the communism, these buildings were taken over by the Romanian state. The confiscated buildings were effectively managed by the communist regime, which left its negative mark on them.
In the 1990's, properties were given back to the owners or their successors. Some of them are still empty, others were renewed and renovated, welcoming friends, family members or enchanting tourist.
