Dasarath Basu arrived in the 11th century in Bengal from northern India. One of his scions, Raghunandan Basu, was reconfirmed the Zamindar & Jagir of Ulpur by the Moghuls in the 16th century. Shuvendu Basu Roy Chowdhury of Ulpur was a member of the same family, which was scattered into India and across the globe after the partition of India in 1947, when Ulpur became part of Bangladesh. Shuvendu married Countess Katalin Mikes of Zabola.
