About
🎨Biró Gábor's works belong to the artistic movement of abstract expressionism. At the same time, his works are characterized by a specific system of motifs. The artist favors cross-shaped motifs, depictions of the human body, or those of Icarus, striving to create strong and expressive chromatic contrasts between lines; at the intersection of these lines, the human figure may appear, or, in certain cases, we must simply imagine it. As Szücs György explains in the exhibition catalog’s preface, to describe his work, we can probably best use the definition of “abstraction that conceals motifs.”
📃 Biró Gábor attended primary and secondary school in his hometown (Odorheiu Secuiesc), where he was prepared for college admission by Kiss László. Between 1976 and 1980, he studied painting at the “Ion Andreescu” Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca. Between 1980 and 1985, he taught drawing in Ozun and was given a studio in Sfântu Gheorghe, where he met Baász Imre. He was a regular participant in county exhibitions in Covasna, and later in Harghita. In 1985, he moved back to Odorheiu Secuiesc. Between 1985 and 1990, he led the visual arts club at the Cultural Center in Odorheiu Secuiesc. In 1998, the Udvar group was formed from among his students. He participated in numerous creative camps. Between 1991 and 2001, he also worked as an editor, restorer, and museum curator. 🖌️
