Open Doors Day at Lake Saint Anne
About
🎉 On June 1, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., in celebration of Children’s Day and International Volcano Day, we invite you to join us for a special day at Lake Saint Anne – Mohos peat bog.
🌋 Learn the story of the Ciomatu volcano: how it worked, when and what types of eruptions it had, why it erupted, why it is currently dormant, and what signs indicate that the volcano cannot be considered completely extinct even today.❓
Discover the 3D model of the Ciomatu volcano and meet the volcanologists who have been studying Ciomatu’s volcanic formations for over 15 years to uncover the volcano’s past and current state.
📍 Program:
🎤 Interactive presentations by the MTA–HUN-REN–CSFK PannonVulkán Lendület Research Group at the Ecotourism Center
* Réka Lukács – The history of volcanic activity and what lies beneath the volcano
* Barbara Cserép – The work of a volcanic detective: what rocks tell us about eruptions
* Harangi Szabolcs – Interactive game and discussion on how volcanoes work and how volcanic eruptions can be predicted
* Kis Boglárka Mercédesz – The study of emitted gases: what these gases are and how we measure them
* Jánosi Csaba – The story of mineral waters
❗ Presentations will be in Hungarian and Romanian.
🔥 The research group is also preparing a surprise: a volcanic eruption simulation!
🕚 The program begins at 11:00 AM and repeats at 2:00 PM.
🌊 Admission to the Lake Saint Anne, the Mohos peat bog, and the Knowledge Center will be free on this day.
✨ This day is a community event intended to start a tradition - a gathering centered on the volcano, science, and the community.
