About

🎨 The exhibition features a selection of István Petrovits’ small-scale sculptures, scale models and designs of his monumental outdoor works, as well as his characteristic drawings and watercolors, executed with an expressiveness unique to the “sculptor’s hand.” The event also serves as an anniversary celebration, as the artist turns 81.

🗿 István Petrovits is one of the leading figures in Hungarian visual art in Transylvania. His work combines classical sculptural language with a modern and expressive vision. In addition to his monumental public works, the artist is also appreciated for his small-scale sculptures and his graphic art; his creations frequently feature the human figure, inner tensions, and a sensitivity to the shaping of materials.

An important chapter in his artistic career was his participation in the sculpture camps at Arcuș and Lăzarea in the 1970s and 1980s, considered essential spaces for artistic experimentation and dialogue among contemporary artists in Romania. His constant presence at these camps contributed to the emergence of a generation of sculptors who redefined the language of monumental sculpture and public art in the region.

Over the course of a career spanning several decades, the artist has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Romania and Hungary, and his monumental sculptures have become important visual landmarks in several towns.
