Arena feeling

The new gem of Sfântu Gheorghe is the first attraction for those arriving in the town from Miercurea Ciuc. The arena of the Sepsi OSK football club is imposing not only because of its size but also because of its eye-catching main entrance. The design elements –known simply as “dovecotes” in popular parlance – hinting at the Transylvanian architect and polyhistor Károly Kós are completely out of the ordinary. Because, undeniably, the facade of a sports facility usually doesn’t look like that.

However, it’s still a football arena, and although it may be suitable for other events due to the built-in sound and lighting systems, this remains its main “identity”. At the same time, visitors to Sfântu Gheorghe will soon be able to add it to the list of attractions as a cultural programme, as the owners of the facility would like to include it among the “bucket list” places of the capital of Covasna by continuously enriching the sports museum and by organizing guided stadium tours.

Nevertheless, it is the home of Sepsi OSK, which is a team that managed to go from the lowest division to the domestic top league in the last ten years, moreover, it has now also made its debut on the international field. The arena has been “dreaming” of Europe since then, and Szeklerland has been enriched with a world-class sports facility.
