Mr Rector
In the form of a statue - sculpted by István Petrovics - he still watches over those on their way to school, both rushers and trudgers. It is not worn smooth yet, which is a clear indicator of the acceptance and popularity of a sculpture, but there are already signs that it is being touched by those who pass by. But who dares to caress a powerful high school principal, even if he has become a statue in the meantime...
Vilmos Csutak led the Székely Mikó College in Sfântu Gheorghe with outstanding knowledge and competence between 1916 and 1936, at a time when the very existence of Hungarian education was being called into question. He experienced the situation created by the collapse of the First World War as a challenge when the use of the mother tongue and Hungarian education were in danger of extinction. With a degree in History and Latin, he became a teacher at Mikó in 1903 and then its director in 1916. At the same time, he was a guard and later director of the Székely National Museum - the great duo was formed together with archaeologist Dr Ferenc László at that time - and he was the author of local history studies based on archival research in Vienna, Budapest, and Szeklerland.
"Mr Rector, let us give snow-clear sylentium, then, / to those who trusted in man's / fickle but eternal goodness" - wrote Zoltán Czegő in his poem Late Excuse. May snow-clear remembrance surround him.
