The Land of Cașins
There is no need to look for a country with such a name on the map, one can rather find the 300 square kilometres of Szekler territory, having been the sub-region of the Ciuc region since the 15th century, under names like the region of Cașin, the countryside of Cașin, Cașins, or the sub-region of Cașin. Its people live in five villages: Plăieșii de Jos, Plăieșii de Sus, Iacobeni, Imper, and Cașinu Nou. In addition to a quick glimpse into the territorial-administrative system of former Hungary, it is also worth stopping to drive through the countryside along the Cașin River.
Over half a century of communism, the region has become increasingly isolated, with deteriorating roads and an 'end of the world' label. But it also served to its advantage, as due to its peripheral location and isolation it preserved the traditional forms of Szekler folk art for the longest time. The folk culture of the region and the spaciousness of the courtyards, dotted with separate buildings for different purposes, was mainly related to the former animal husbandry. Even today, a visitor can still find farms that are still inhabited and used as living space, and which are increasingly found only in museums.
Whether you come from the Ciuc Basin or the upper region of Covasna County, don't forget to take a wreath of remembrance with you. The memorial of the heroic Székely resistance fighters of the 1848 War of Independence on the Piatra Niergeș calls for a mandatory stop.
