About
📸 A photography exhibition by graphic artist and photographer Gyula Ádám.
🖼️ Gyula Ádám (b. 1961, Cârța, Romania) originally trained as a graphic artist and later became a defining figure of Hungarian photography in Transylvania. His graphic vision, compositional sensitivity and technical mastery were shaped during his studies at the Art High School in Târgu Mureș. He encountered photography while still a student, and in the years preceding the political transition gained recognition through his documentary work created in the Csángó villages of Moldavia and the Ghimeș region.
👥 The human being stands at the center of his art: faces, hands and gazes from which - according to journalist Gábor Cseke - an “aesthetics of the face” emerges, rooted in Christian values and imbued with the symbolic light of the church of his native village, revealing “not only the reality, but the truth of things.” He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Hungary and across Europe and is the author of several important photographic albums. His work has been honored with major awards, including the Pro Urbe Award of Miercurea Ciuc (2000), the Hungarian Art Award (2008), the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (2019), the EMKE Kallós Zoltán Award (2022), Section Award of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, Szőts István Award for Film and Photography (2022). 🏅
Gyula Ádám has been a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2023.
