Roe deer on two wheels

Roe deer on two wheels

Cycling from the top of Gurgău to Șugaș Băi is always an adventure. Even though I am long past my bold adolescence, I still like to speed up downhill: the Schwalbe has good adherence, the front fork does its work quietly, and the rear schock absorber makes descents smooth. Of course, sometimes I have the devil inside me: look, there is a one-step difference in level, I should go for it. Only for the sake of it, because I can’t control the beast as much as the guys on the downhill track next to the big ski trail. The path winds downhill, but there is no chance of you going astray even at this speed and enthusiasm, because the mountain rescue team did a good job with the markings for bikers. Air enters the lungs in short but intense doses: is this adrenaline? I deserve it after all, I’ve earned it: it was a serious climb from the spring at Vâlcele up to Havad. Well marked, as well.

All right, I’ve made it down. The water from the spring of Elisabeta is refreshing, and I’ve also washed the salt off my face and the mud off my eyeglasses. I think I’ll go down the old road, the Telegraf. It’s May, nature is raging: maybe I’ll catch sight of a roe deer fight again on the Avaș pasture.
