The mist rises above the lake

The experience lives in me like this: between 7 and 7.30 in the morning, I reach the top of the ridge, stop in a clearing, look down into the depths, where the morning mist is thickly rolling upwards. After a few minutes, the mirror of the lake glistens, offering itself with a pure serenity, like the nymphs of great painters stepping out of a bath. And then to eat a scrambled egg sandwich and move on towards new experiences.

Of course, one had to make a sacrifice for this face of the Saint Anne Lake. To get up at dawn, take the train, get off at Bixad, turn towards the side of the Ciomatu at early dawn, and then look down the clearing between 7.00 and 7.30. For a while I’ve only remembered that moment, driving to the lake and to Mohos, because the peat bog is one of the unmissable places on the itinerary. But if I stop at the lake and close my eyes, I can already hear the voices of the old tent camps: Jenő, come and wash the dishes!

Today it’s a reserve, you can’t camp on the shore, you can only walk around the water. Of course, be careful, because at any moment a bear “spoiled” by us could appear, and he is the one that is at home there. But the experience when the mist rises over the lake can be lived by any of us.
