Ozunca Băi for the Healthy and for Those Who Want to Heal
When summer bathing was still a common practice in Szeklerland, and those who could afford it went to the bathing resorts, Ozunca Băi was one of the favourite baths. The small settlement in the Baraolt Basin, located 10 km from Bățanii Mari, was established in the valley of the streams Ozunca and Păstrăvului, and two separate baths were established near the mineral springs bearing the names of the two streams, however, today only the one near the Ozunca spring exists, waiting for better times.
The excellent medicinal water of the bath, known since Roman times, contains iodine, iron, a very high level of lithium, and bound carbonic acid, making the water a remedy for many ailments. But Ozunca Băi also offers a wonderful place for relaxation for the healthy. It can be the starting point for splendid excursions, from where we can even go back into the past, for example to Vápa Castle in the direction of Bixad, since the traces of the castle’s huge foundations can still be seen today. The rock towering high above the railway line bears traces of the past, as the quarry workers have unearthed thousands of years of remains, from clay pots of prehistoric man to Scythian and Avar stirrups. It is no wonder that the great Transylvanian storyteller, Elek Benedek, was so fascinated by the area that he could not part with it until his death.
