„I have a very positive attitude about these things, in any evil there is little good” – interview with Domokos Nobert, the owner of Piedone Pizza & Doner from Covasna
Continuing our series of interviews, we asked the owners of the restaurants, pizzerias and fast food restaurants from Covasna and Târgu Secuiesc, how their business was affected by the measures taken due to the coronavirus, and how they managed to survive and exceed this period.
Would you tell us a little about the restaurant? When did you open, what kind of dishes do you have on the menu?
The restaurant is connected to a guesthouse, and it was taken over last year in February, then renovated, and the kitchen was opened. We tried to offer the specialties of the local cuisine, such as the Szekler goulash, so everything that is specific to the Hungarian cuisine, for which tourists come.
How was your business affected by regulations introduced to reduce coronavirus infections? Was it hard to adapt to the new situation?
Unfortunately, the coronavirus has affected us a lot. According to my calculations, our sales with home delivery have dropped to 30-40 percent. The restaurant itself and the guest house’s activities have completely stopped, due to being closed.
What kind of regulations did you introduce?
What the authorities asked us to do, we did. Gloves, mask and hand wash. We are much more careful with hygiene. And the delivery has been carefully organized, so the courier is ready to wash his hands after each delivery. The food to be delivered is taken from the kitchen to another room and the courier takes over the order from that room, so the outside world does not meet the one in the kitchen. We do the same with those who work in the kitchen, they change in a room and that's how they enter the kitchen after that, so they don't enter with the clothes worn outside.
How do you see the future?
I have a very positive attitude about these things, in any evil there is little good. I am sure that we will learn to live with this as well and that we will find opportunities. It will be good for sure, I feel that from now on it will be better and better
